You are surviving in Minecraft and you are in need of a consistent food source. We have already covered breeding; in this article gardening will be covered. The advantage of gardening is that a massive amount of plants can be grown – this is not the case with breeding, because the animals movement causes lag. Plants do not provide as much health per bite.
The location of the farm is important. It should be close to your base so it will grow while you work, and it should be closed off from animals that will tromp on it. An underground farm is the safest. There is something to be lost about gardening in a tunnel though. It just doesn’t feel the same.
Good form is essential. Build your farm around the fact that water travels 4 blocks from a source block. The most efficient build for a wheat farm consists of one water block in the middle of a 9X9 square. The best form for watermelons is to create a 4XN rectangle that is bordered by water; plant the seeds on the dirt blocks that border the water, the melons will grow in the middle.
It is interesting to note that there is a way to breed and farm at the same time. Mooshrooms can be sheared for mushrooms, milked for soup, and killed for meat. The mooshrooms are sacred, keep them holy.
